Occupational Therapy

Pediatric Occupational Therapy is a profession that helps children do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners focus on helping children develop the skills they need to grow into functional, independent adults. Areas addressed include: cognitive, fine and gross motor skills, self-care tasks, social skills, sensory processing and regulation. It is an evidence-based practice deeply rooted in science.

Feeding Therapy

Feeding Therapy utilizing the SOS Approach to Feeding-This approach integrates motor, oral, behavioral/learning, medical, sensory and nutritional factors and approaches in order to comprehensively evaluate and manage children with feeding/growth problems. It is based on, and grounded philosophically in, the “normal” developmental steps, stages and skills of feeding found in typically developing children.

Play Based Program

The Play-Based Program at Hawaii Children’s Center follows a developmental approach that is customized to the child's needs and interests, respecting the child’s current level of development. We are specialists in working directly with children, as well as training parents to help children with challenging behaviors find more appropriate and meaningful replacement skills. We help build a positive relationship between caregivers and child.

Autism Program

The Autism program is tailored according to the needs of the individual and their families. Professionals will design and recommend strategies to improve social, communication and cognitive skills. We will assess the child’s current level of engagement and determine treatment based on their individualized needs. Interventions focus not only on the individual with autism, but also on coaching and training the parents. Caregivers are included in the program so intervention can continue outside of treatment sessions. You know your child best! We will be here to support you in this process. A mix of evidence-based practices will be tailored to the needs o the individual. We will follow your child’s lead so that we can understand and expand your keiki’s play and social engagement.

Special Education Support

The special education professional work with children with developmental delays performing with a wide range of cognitive, social emotional, adaptive, and physical disabilities. Strategies, and techniques are adapted to teach various skills to support individuals with developmental and or learning disabilities to reach their goals. This skilled professional can also work with a multidisciplinary team and have different approaches to address unique needs.

Speech Language Pathology

Speech therapy is the evaluation and treatment of communication and speech disorders. Techniques implemented by this professional include articulation therapy, language intervention activities, and others strategies depending on the speech disorder. This professional is allowed to work with infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults with speech disorders that can develop in childhood or speech impairments in adults caused by an injury or illness, such as stroke or brain injury.

Physical Therapy

Pediatric Physical Therapy is a skilled intervention to support children with and without disability to achieve functional mobility, improve strength, and support adaptive equipment as necessary to support each individual child with as much independence at home and within the community as possible. In addition, skilled intervention will focus on patient and caregiver education, to fully enable as much independence as possible throughout the lifespan
